Intro to Pistol

This class is for the first-time beginner or the out-of-practice shooter and will cover how a pistol works, safe handling of pistols, firearm safety rules, how to load, store, and clean your pistol, and the fundamentals of marksmanship. This class is kid-friendly as long as they are mature enough to handle firearms under a controlled environment with the parent present. This is a 4 hour block of instruction and is broken up into 2 evenings of instruction on the Thursday and Friday evenings before each Beginner CPL class so as to provide the best instruction for those wanting both classes.
Thursday night is the classroom portion and Friday night is the range portion.

Students will need:

  • Ear Protection
  • Eye protection (sunglasses or prescription eyewear will work)
  • A pistol, preferably a full-sized one. If you do not have one, you can rent one WITH ammunition for $20
  • 50 rounds of ammunition

The for this class is $75. However, if taken with a CPL class the price is $50 for this class (provided that at least the CPL deposit has been paid).

Beginner CPL

This class is a one day course that usually takes 10 hours or more. This is because we do not cut any corners and have one-on-one coaching which takes longer but offers vastly superior instruction to the student over most CPL instructors. We do this in a safe environment and a fun atmosphere. You will learn about defensive encounters, effects of stress and recovery from a life-threatening situation, the legality of self-defense and where and when you can carry, basic concealed carry techniques, levels of awareness, basics of pistol marksmanship and defensive marksmanship.
You don’t even need a pistol to take the course, as we have rentals available that come with all the ammunition you will need. Experience is not a requirement, but beginners will struggle so we encourage our “Intro to Pistol” course by way of a 30% discount if taken with the CPL class.

Students will need:

  • Pistol or revolver with a caliber larger than .22. Please no magnums larger than .357, Single Action Revolvers or black powder pistols. Rentals are available if you don’t have one for $20 at the time of class
  • 100rds of ammunition, factory loads only. No handloads allowed.
  • 2 magazines of at least 5rd capacity, or speed loader for revolver
  • Eye protection
  • Ear protection
  • Weather appropriate clothing, as we shoot outside
  • A spare magazine pouch is a good idea, but not required

Price is $100 with a non-refundable deposit of $50 to reserve a seat. Discounts that are available:
-25% discount for groups of 4 or more with the coupon code: groupcpl25
-10% discount for military, veterans, law enforcement, clergy, teachers, tow truck drivers, medical workers and mental health counsellors with coupon code: jobcpl10

Every Day Carry (EDC) Class

This is the class you want, the one that you thought you would get with the beginner CPL class but didn’t get. You will learn how to properly and effectively draw from several positions, use cover and concealment, movement, engage multiple targets, more guidance on methods of carry and holster selection and more.

Students will need:

  • The pistol you already carry or plan to carry. If you carry or plan to carry a sub-compact or micro-compact firearm, it is encouraged to also bring a full-size or compact pistol that you can use in the class as the smaller pistols are less accurate and harder to shoot. Please, no magnums, black powder or Single Action Only revolvers.
  • The holster you carry or plan to carry. This holster must meet the minimum safety requirements: 1, fully cover and secure the trigger guard and 2, allow the student to safely holster the pistol properly
  • A back up fully rigid (non-collapsible) OWB hip holster, in case your EDC (Everyday Carry) holster is not suitable for this class
  • A shirt (or jacket for winter) that can fully open and close in the front that will fully conceal your firearm. Example: a button down shirt or zippered sweater
  • 300rds of ammunition, no hand-loads allowed
  • 2 magazines of more than 5 rds each, minimum
  • A spare magazine pouch
  • Eye protection (sunglasses or prescription eyewear are acceptable)
  • Ear protection
  • Weather appropriate clothing as the range is outside

The price for this training is $100 with a non-refundable $50 deposit minimum required in order to reserve a seat. Discounts that can apply:
-25% discount on groups of 4 or more with coupon code: groupcpl25
-10% discount for military, veteran, law enforcement, clergy, 1st responders, medical practitioners, teachers and mental health counsellors with coupon code: jobcpl10

MCRGO Instructor Workshop

A great way to turn your hobby, experience or interest into a legitimate business and income!

The Instructor Workshop will guide Instructor Candidates through planning, setting up and teaching, and completing the MCRGO CPL Course from start to finish. We will cover the standards and ethics of MCRGO Instructors, various teaching methods, establishing the flow of the class, making sure the candidate knows, follows, and enforces all firearm safety rules at all times. Candidates will take turns instructing parts of the course under the guidance of the Master Instructor in both the classroom and range environment.
Candidates should already have the fundamentals of pistol marksmanship down very well. No previous experience in training or teaching is required (but certainly is useful!).

If you wish to become an Instructor, the following steps must be completed:

  • Be an MCRGO Member
  • Have at least 1 year of experience with a CPL
  • Fill out an Instructor Application from the MCRGO website
  • Have successfully taken the MCRGO CPL course -OR-
  • Already are an NRA, USCCA, or MCOLES Instructor. If you have neither but have significant training in the use of firearms (Example: was a Small Arms Instructor in the Military) then you may apply for a waiver. Contact Kenneth Boyd at 616-901-1597 if you have any questions
  • Reserve your seat in the class with a minimum nonrefundable deposit of $200 or pay the full price of the workshop of $400

Intro to the AR-15

This class will take the curious person or the new AR-15 owner through the basic maintenance of the AR-15, options, accessories, and operation of the most popular rifle in America. You do not need an AR-15 to take this class. This class is a 2 hour evening of class time.

This class is $50. However, if taken with a HDR 1 class and the class is $25.

Home Defense Rifle 1

This class, also known as HDR1, is an 8 hour class that is at the beginner level. Instruction will be given on using the carbine, modern sporting rifle or AR-15 specifically for home defense.
The student will be taught proper function of the rifle, sights/optics, slings and accessories that are applicable to home defense, shooting positions, basic rifle marksmanship and will culminate with successfully zeroing your rifle and shooting at various distances.
Successfully completing HDR1 is a requirement to attend Home Defense Rifle 2.
HDR2 will consist of Close Quarter Marksmanship (CQM) and defensive use of the rifle. You will need your sights and optics (if equipped) to be zeroed properly.

Students will need:

  • A rifle. Preferably a carbine of any kind or Modern Sporting Rifle like an AR or AK platform
  • 400 rounds of ammunition
  • Eye protection (sunglasses or prescription eyewear is fine)
  • Ear protection. Beware, many ear muffs do not work well with rifles
  • Weather appropriate clothing for the range

Home Defense Rifle 2

Home Defense Rifle 2 is all about Close Quarter Marksmanship, using your carbine or rifle in a confined environment for home defense. This is an 8 hour class that is all range time, no class time.

HDR1 is required to take this class, regardless of the experience of the student. This is a complex class that is intense at times and requires movement, critical thinking and other advanced skills. I use HDR1 as a way to ensure the safety of my students, that they can handle their rifle for a class like this.
Additionally, HDR1 guarantees the rifles are zeroed (which is a requirement) and goes over “best practices” on zeroing and Basic Rifle Marksmanship to ensure the shooter knows the most effective ways to operate the rifle. Not all instructors do not teach these techniques.

Students will need:

  • An AR-15 that has sights and optics (if equipped) that are zeroed properly
  • 400 rounds of ammunition. Factory ammunition only, no hand loads
  • A sling for your rifle
  • At least 2x 30rd magazines, but 4 is preferable.
  • Spare magazine pouch is optional
  • Eye protection (sunglasses or prescription eyewear is fine)
  • Ear protection (must work with a rifle – ear muffs are problematic with rifle use)
  • Weather appropriate clothing
  • Sunscreen or sunblock
